THE SMITHS

THE SMITHS - The world's greatest band and inspiration for thousands of other bands and millions of fans all around the world. These are the lyrics to REEL AROUND THE FOUNTAINy's melancholic tones bring it to life but the lyrics are fantastic.

"I dreamt about you last night, and I fell out bed twice" is actually a line from a great 1960's film set in Manchester called A TASTE OF HONEY. starring Rita Tushingham about a schoolgirl who falls in love with a black sailor.

It's time the tale were told Of how you took a child And you made him old
It's time the tale were told Of how you took a child And you made him old You made him old
Reel around the fountain Slap me on the patio I'll take it now Oh ... fifteen minutes with you Well, I wouldn't say no Oh, people said that you were virtually dead And they were so wrong

Fifteen minutes with you Oh, well, I wouldn't say no Oh, people said that you were easily led And they were half-right Oh, they ... oh, they were half-right, oh It's time the tale were told Of how you took a child And you made him old It's time that the tale were told Of how you took a child And you made him old You made him old
Oh, reel around the fountain Slap me on the patio I'll take it now Ah ... oh ...
Fifteen minutes with you Oh, I wouldn't say no Oh, people see no worth in you Oh, but I do. Fifteen minutes with you Oh, I wouldn't say no Oh, people see no worth in you I do. Oh, I ... oh, I do Oh ...

I dreamt about you last night And I fell out of bed twice You can pin and mount me like a butterfly But "take me to the haven of your bed" Was something that you never said Two lumps, please You're the bee's knees But so am I
Oh, meet me at the fountain Shove me on the patio I'll take it slowly Oh ...
Fifteen minutes with you Oh, I wouldn't say no Oh, people see no worth in you Oh, but I do. Fifteen minutes with you Oh, no, I wouldn't say no Oh, people see no worth in you I do. Oh, I ... I do Oh, I do Oh, I do Oh, I do

CELEBRITY CULTURE

Everybody wants to be famous, everybody wants to be a celebrity. X-Factor and Fame Academy for the novices, Strictly Come Dancing for those well-knowns who are slipping from A-list to Z-list.
Danielle Lloyd - on-off girlfriend of footballer Teddy Sheringham and tied up in the Big Brother race-row recently bought a house in Essex for two million pounds.
This is staggering. Only in England can someone who has nothing to offer reap such rewards.
It's no wonder millions want to follow suit. Losers are winners here and that's a fact.
Celebrity Circus, Celebrity Chef, Celebrity Scissorhands (when Z-listers learn to be a hair-stylist) are regularly on our screens. How about Celebrity Suicide where viewers can vote for the one who tops themselves once a week?
Jade Goody made her millions, was tied up in the aforementioned race row and fell to earth with a loud bump!
A pathetic aplogy, a bit of charity work and she's back on her screens with her perfume back on the shelves.
This is worrying, Children as young as fourteen have been quoted to say "without this I've nothing" as Simon Cowell tells them they sound like choking cats. Get a life!
Westlife, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, the list is endless. Making millions and called "bands".....erm where are the guitars and drums?
Every week there's a new celebrity magazine. EXCLUSIVE! Posh Spice's new lipstick colour! And it sells.
Your blogger here has one or two famous faces he likes, a supermodel nd a singer. None of them crave publicity but the media love them and loath them so they will always be in he spotlight. Kate Moss and Morrissey the two in question.
The Fame Game. If you win then good luck but the stakes are high.

JEAN CHARLES DE MENEZES

This is a brief report on the shocking circumstances that saw an innocent man brutally killed on the London Underground.

On July 7th 2005, London was terrorised by suicide bombers who targeted busy stations during sush hour and 29 innocent comuters were killed, several more lost limbs, sight, hearing and any self-confidence.

Two weeks later, police were surveilling a block of flats where an alleged terrorist was living and crucially so to Mr Menezes.

People were filmed leaving the block but just as Jean left, the police officer filming had disappeared to go to the toilet!

The scent (of the wrong man) was eventually picked up. He jumped on a a bus to Brixton station. There he saw the station (unrelated) was closed. So he got back on the bus - normal behaviour right? Bizarrely this was seen as suspicious.

Eventually Jean arrived at Stockwell followed by armed officers. He picked up a free newspaper (not the behaviour of a man about to blow himself up), went through the ticket barrier (didn't leap it as police originally said) got onto the train and sat down.

At this point he was surrounded by police who pumped seven bullets into his head. Shocking.

Last week the Metropolitan Police were found guilty of breaching Health & Safety issues, H&S of the general public that is.

This seems (excuse the pun) a cop-out. It was alleged the victim had leapt the barriers, had continued to run when alerted by police officers, it was also alleged he reached for draw strings on his rucksack. All these claims we now know are lies.

Jean Charles was calm and sat in his seat when he was shot, this is according to another lady in the carriage.

Sir Ian Blair, Commisioner of the Metropolitan Police was under pressure to resign - he refused.

Only the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith can sack him and she supports him.

What do you think?

ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS

Animal experiments - this debate could go on forever. From my perspective they cannot be justified in any way.
At scientific development increases at rapid speeds, DNA, sample tissue, organs and tests on humans is the only way.
There are endless cases where drugs deemed safe on primates have killed homo sapien.
In the UK animal exploitation is a big business. Many large companies have high-profile MPs who sign the contracts off and make big money themselves.
AIDS drugs were tested on orang-utans (an endagerged species by the way) without success. Human testing has worked giving those with AIDS a longer life expectancy.
A recebt sarcastically given award went to Cambridge University. They fed pregnant rats...wait for it.....blancmange, sweets and chocolate. They then discovered the young of these rats had a craving for high sugar content and were drawn to the very same foods.
Rats aren't usually seen making a blancmange or scanning the confectionary at ASDA. After these ground-breaking results all the rats, young included were killed.
Recently deceased Anita Roddick, founder of Body Shop, sold produce none of which had been tested on animals.
many companies are now following suit. Boots, Rimmell and Space NK in particular must be commended.
Huntingdon Science Labs in Cambridgeshire continue to exploit animals in the name of science.
All the evidence for this to stop is there but this a capitalist world where money talks. Those with a voice are making money, those with a squeak or a bark continue to die without reason.

BARRY GEORGE

NEWS UPDATE....Following an appeal, on November 15th, Barry George was granted a re-trial. The appeal judges highlighting the incredibly weak evidence relating to the gunshot residue. Read below the background to this intriguing case.
In 1999, high-profile BBC TV presenter Jill Dando was shot on her own doorstep in West London.

Two years later, Barry George was convicted of her murder. There were gasps in the gallery anb amongst the media when the guilty verdict was passed.
The evidence was deemed questionable and there are accusations that due the high-profile case, police were under pressure to get a result - and fast.
Barry George was a loner and in the lowest 1% of mental stability in the country.
True there was a liking of guns and a sexual assault conviction but is he a murderer?
The main piece of evidence revolves around a molecule of gun shot found in the pocket of the coat Barry George was wearing at the time.
Subsequent gun experts have questioned this. The coat wasn't bagged up and immediately taken to forensics. It was taken to a photo lab and put on a tailord dummy where just TWO WEEKS previous firearms had been in the same lab.
Molecules float in the are and it is highly possible one slipped in a pocket during its time there. What about other evidence? Psychologists have stated George doesn't have the mental strength to perform a calculated murder. Eye-witnesses saw a man with shoulder length hair. Look at the photo - this is how George always had his hair cut.
Police said he retraced his steps on the day of the murder, asking various people to write down when and where her had been that day. He was looking for alibis the police said. In fact, this was normal behaviour for George. He has a short memory and would often do this. Of course, memory loss isn't helpful at all during questioning.
The first appeal of 2005 failed. The second appeal is happening now and it all hinges on the molecule found in his coat.
If innocent then many will feel justice has prevailed. Let's not forget Jill Dando. A pretty, down to earth lady, recently engaged lost her life to a cold-blooded killer.
